Join Us for a Live Q&A with Christy Fletcher on Thursday at 5pm ET
Ever wanted to pick the brain of one of publishing's most powerful agents? This is your chance!
Christy Fletcher is one of the most influential dealmakers in publishing. In 2003, she founded Fletcher & Company, a literary agency that grew to represent hundreds of writers, including our friend Gretchen Rubin, Pulitzer Prize winner John Carreyrou, Chip and Dan Heath, Melissa Urban, and Eric Ries. Her clients have won or been shortlisted for the National Book Award, the Booker, and even the Nobel Prize in Literature.
In 2023, she sold Fletcher & Company to UTA, where she’s now co-head of publishing. The acquisition gave the world’s third largest talent agency valuable visibility into new books that can be adapted into movies, TV shows and podcasts — something we’ll be sure to ask Christy about since 20% of the authors we surveyed back in March said the opportunity they’re most excited about is breaking into film/TV. For Christy, joining UTA has created an opportunity to leverage the resources of an entertainment industry juggernaut to help writers build online audiences and hone their marketing strategies in today’s chaotic media landscape.
What inspires us about Christy, and why we’re so pleased she’s agreed to join us for a live Q&A, is that she’s not just an agent — she’s an innovator. She helped Eric Ries raise nearly $600,000 on Kickstarter for a digital-first book called The Leader’s Guide. She built and sold a company called Authoritive, which created interactive courses with Susan Cain, Mark Bittman, Catherine Price, and many others.
“To keep the business healthy for authors,” she told the New York Times last year, “we need to consider new models for how they are compensated and how books are published.” The game is changing, and Christy is helping to write a new playbook.
Want to know what that playbook looks like? Join our live Q&A this Thursday, May 29, at 5pm ET.
