Join Us on June 19 for a Live Q&A with Sharon McMahon
She built an audience of 1.3 million Instagram followers and 360,000 Substack subscribers, launched a hit podcast, and wrote a #1 New York Times bestseller — all in five years. How'd she manage that?
The Electoral College made her do it.
In 2020, Sharon McMahon, a former public school teacher who was then running a yarn-dyeing business, got so frustrated with the misinformation she saw online about America’s often-misunderstood voting system that she decided to make a five-minute explainer video and post it on Facebook.
“Hit me with your questions,” she said at the close, “and let me know if you want me to make more videos like this.”
Cut to 2025. Sharon has grown that Facebook video into a one-woman media empire.
She now has 1.3 million followers on Instagram, a Substack newsletter called The Preamble with more than 360,000 subscribers, and an online book club that’s so popular there is a waiting list to join. Then there’s her hit podcast, Here’s Where It Gets Interesting, where she’s interviewed everyone from Kamala Harris and Mitt Romney to Ken Burns and Heather Cox Richardson; and her book, The Small and the Mighty, which hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.
How on earth did she accomplish so much in such a short period? That’s the question we’re going to explore in our Q&A with Sharon on Thursday, June 19, at 4:30 p.m. ET.
This session will be take place on Substack Live and is open to all Author Insider subscribers — free, paid, and founding. If you’re not already a subscriber, you can sign up below:
